Established on September 9, 1915 by Dr. Carter G. Woodson, the Association for the Study of African American Life and History (ASALH) is the founder of Black History Month. It carries on the work of Dr. Woodson, the Father of Black History. ASALH’s mission is to create and disseminate knowledge about black history and establish strong relationships between academia and the global public on issues, stories, and events related to black history.
