In early December 2014, Perisphere completed a project with Africa Today TV to launch a newly designed and platformed website at http://africatodaytv.com. Africa Today TV is an educational and public service network that provides original informative content from and about the nations and peoples in Africa to a growing audience in Washington, D.C., the United States, and around the world.
We engaged in a strategy effort with CEO Yaya Moussa to incorporate the vibrant existing Africa Today TV brand into a responsive website powered by a custom WordPress theme. Graphic design focused on amplifying the logo and colors to better convey a sense of hope and vision for the continent itself, and for Africa Today TV’s mission to convey news and information about the nations of Africa and its people in the United States. We also extended that look and feel through the careful image selection and curation for the website and for Facebook, Twitter, and YouTube.
The website build included efforts to ensure good organization of, and easy access to, past programming and videos, times and information about upcoming broadcasts, and to a BBC RSS feed of African news. Particular attention was paid to optimizing the responsive experience for viewing the videos on mobile and tablet devices – as well as content migration from Africa Today TV’s previous site. Capability was also built in for future display of events and activities through a customized calendar widget.
The project team included Matt Smith and Marc DelMonico as Executive Producers, James Olin as lead designer, and Alex Lofland as key developer, with Diana LeRoi-Schmidt as supervising developer. The entire effort from kickoff to launch took place between October and December 2014.
Presently, we continue to work closely with the entire Africa Today TV team to promote content through the website and on social media – with anticipation of further site expansion as additional content is generated in the coming year.
